Mountaineering

Indoor and outdoor rock climbing and hiking - TU Dublin Mountaineering Club is open to anyone who has an interest in the mountaineering side of the outdoors: Rock climbing, scrambling, hill walking; we dabble in a bit of everything! We welcome all students to come down to training sessions regardless of prior experience!

Welcome to TU Dublin Mountaineering Club (or TUDMC for short!). Join one of the fastest growing and most thrilling sports club at TU Dublin. If you are new to climbing and mountaineering, give us a try, over the first few weeks our committee under the guidance and supervision of our Instructor Ronan Kane will teach you the basics.  Join us for indoor climbing sessions twice a week on Mondays and Wednesdays, hiking every second weekend, trips to get away from the hustle and bustle of Dublin, and excellent socials!  Make sure you join our WhatsApp group and follow us on Instagram to stay up to date with teaching sessions, socials, trips, and lots more!

If you’re new to climbing, we run regular introductory sessions throughout the year to help you become a confident and independent climber: teaching you the ropes at Larkin College Climbing Centre, introducing you to bouldering at gyms around the city, and helping you build technique and strength.  Our teaching sessions book out quickly, so make sure you become a member now, so you can sign up for them!

If you’re an experienced climber who can confidently belay, you’ll need to pre-book a place at our sessions through your Activities Portal Calendar to meet the club and find a belayer or spotter. We’ll help you develop your skills with lead climbing, improve your bouldering, and you can even learn trad climbing with the help of our coach, Ronan. If you’d like to try your hand at competing, you can join our competition team and compete nationally against other universities in the Climbing Intervarsities, or take part in other competitions such as G-Force.

If hiking is your main interest, join us every other week! With hikes of varying difficulty, there’s something for everyone. We’ll make sure you know what to bring and how to get to the starting point, so all you need to do is enjoy the adventure. You can sign up for all our hikes on the Portal, and we’ll keep you updated with all the details in our WhatsApp group and on Instagram. Whether you've scaled Carrauntoohil or have never even seen a mountain before, you'll fit right in, we're a friendly gang.
